She was having abdominal pains and her abdomen was very swollen and enlarged. Dr. Ephraim McDowell, from Boyle County, over 60 miles came to see her in Green County, KY, and he realized she was not pregnant, but had a large ovarian tumor. Dr. McDowell told her that he would try to remove it if she would come to his home in Danville, KY.
